Hi there Shane, I went to Woolworths in Tawa yesterday and they had almond flour in the bulk bins. NZ Woolworths is online so may be able to have a look on there as well as your local one.
 Hope this helps

 Jeanette

Hi Jeanette,
I tried my local Foodtown but I haven't tried a Woolworth's - I just assumed they'd have the same range. That's great news though, I'm craving a bit of baking.
 Cheers

 Shane

Hey Shane, Also, you might be looking for almond flour but it will be labelled "ground almonds" instead. I usually just buy the little 70g packets in the baking isle (it's with all the other packets of nuts) as Jon can't tolerate too much of the stuff anyway. So I just buy it as and when I need it in small amounts. Chelsea | | |

Del,
Any tips on blanching? I've tried this a couple times in the past and found it rather tedious and annoying.

That food dehydrator would have came in handy as my almonds always seemed to retain water (after the soak) despite drying them for a long enough period.

 Kind Regards,
 Jay

I recommend buying almond and coconut flour from amazon. It is remarkably cheap and shipping is free. At Cub almond flour costs $13/pound, from amazon - $4.Make sure you don't buy almond meal, it is not the right consistency for recipes.

for almond flour check out any indian/asian food warehouse type places in your area, most of the ones I've been to (in christchurch at least) have grounds almonds in bulk bins and for quite a lot cheaper than the little supermarket bags. don't buy too large a quantity though, because the almond oils will start to go rancid quite quickly after they've been ground.
as for coconut flour, I just grind shredded coconut in a little breville coffee/spice grinder and though it doesn't quite get to the consistency of flour it has worked for everything I've used it in, like pancakes that can actually be turned and muffins that aren't like little bricks. In all of my baking I use a mixture of ground coconut, ground almonds and ground linseed.
