I was off work for 3 years from when major muscle spasms first hit my lower back area and just got back to pretty much full time work a year ago. I was really scared about how I would manage, but its been OK. As ineptwill has said, it is possible to feel better at the end of a hard day than if you didn't go out at all. I do think just the forced movement that working pushes me into does help loosen up joints. The other thing I really had to do was confront my fear of more activity causing more pain, when in reality it doesn't (as long as you avoid the really bad ways of moving). I also had to get used to taking things like tramadol for breakthrough pain to get me through the work day, but I'm OK with that now. A year on, I'm really glad I made that big jump back into the workforce, as it has opened up a lot more possibilities for me that the extra income allows and that keeps me in contact with people.

The anxiety and momentary dawdling is normal. CONGRATULATIONS on having the fortitude to get this far. Don't sell yourself short that is a huge accomplishment with AS.

The AS won't stop you. I had the same fears 25 or so years ago. My job keeps me on my feet more than one would ever suspect an attorney to be on their feet. Or worse seated in some torturous wooden undersigned chair somewhere.. WHether its adrenaline, determination or the grace of God or my best guess in my case lll that I am just too dense to know better, you will find a way.

In your case the Enbrel may give you the boost to feel less pain and stay healthier than I was ever able to remain.

As I said don't underestimate how terrific your achievement is and don;t look at it as if all it will allow you to do is nursing which is so demanding. Many nurses I know went on to hospital administration by continuin with osme education.

You are opening a door to make your life with AS moremanageable. COngratulations.

Totally understand and my heart goes out to you. One thing I can say to encourage you, and I'm sure you know this, but, wow your degree is so marketable! You could find ALL sorts of career paths with an RN! You ROCK that you made it this far. I know because my sister is just about done with nursing school and OH MY GOSH what you all go through!! I think what you are feeling and thinking is totally natural.
