I haven't heard of it . . . I know ASers get heart and lung problems, plus eyes and gut etc. I have Interstitial Cystitis which is the bladder being eaten alive by the immune system. Haven't heard of any kidney issues though.
Are you having kidney issues?

Yes. Rare, but documented.

I have pretty good knowledge of kidney failure, my Mom died of End Stage Renal Failure..we dealt with it for about 10 years.

My Mom developed it due to her diabetes, but I would imagine if your AS decided to attack your kidneys then it could do just about anything.

I dont think it is a common occurance with it but I couldnt count it out.

Picked it up a while ago, as when young I had acute nephritis (scarlet fever bug at school, 3 of us got N. 2 died). Pa always said to be mindful of drugs and related kidney probs, hence I check everything. Amazing how many times I have to pull up doctors due to this relationship - I'd be right furious if I got kidney failure due to meds...Oh boy, would I be, and then some!!

Think it is pretty rare though - hope so... alien

With the help of good nursing and home care, I got through. Three years, no schooling - and six more years of three then six monthly hospital check-ups lasting a week in hospital each time. Made lots of 'hospital' friends, it was almost like having a second family - bit like KA, but with actual 'faces'? Playing cards, board games and the visiting library and *lots of occupational therapy, toy making (still got a small black felt b dog I made!) weaving, cane work (and still got a tray I made!) Enjoyed all of that, but...NOT the tests. Endless and Horrible.

Yep. I survived. And now this and all the rest...strewth smile And am still 'surviving' <LOL>

Take care -

la Molls

I'm not sure about AS causing kidney failure but NSAID's have affected my kidneys to the degree that they start to malfunction. My Rheumatologist wont allow me to take them any more. She's done an application for Humira which will hopefully help but it sounds pretty scary.

I should get a test done for Interstitial Cystitis. I did have urethritis once. I don't have all the symptoms, but I have most of them. I assumed prostate problems, but something is making me sick. I have never felt so bad for so long
