So I was standing in the shower my neck killing me and nice migraine to go along. I remembered back to my recent rheumy appt. Where all my x-rays looked good except for my neck which is nice mess. Then she told me that she believes my A.S is misdiagnosed (batting 3-4 on that). During that appt. she mentioned my cacium in my kidneys which i've known of for years. It got me to thinking is this related to A.S. so sure enough i go online to find something in this regard and well here we are. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15971429.zso based on that now i wonder if in this increased number is there possiblity that these individuals my have a way of dispelling some of the calcification away from bone growth? Please speak up if you suffer from calcium renal stones also please.

First your link is broken in that it leads to a page that does not exist on that site anymore. I think this is the link possibly you had posted: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15971429

There is evidence about kidney stones being a problem for some with A.S. So, yes A.S. can be blamed for a higher incidence for kidney stones in patients that suffer from the disease.

Kidney stones are also a problem with some gastrointestinal problems (seems to be the ones that lead to malabsorption problems) like crohns, UC, and coeliac.

Hello again, bagobones:

I suffered with kidney stones for over a decade; these are directly related to increased AS activity and are the result of inflammation plus deep depletion of calcium from bones. After the Ca reserves are consumed (bone spiculae), the other components of bone are randomly assaulted to obtain calcium and a primary by-product of this is the oxylate radical.

Depletion of local calcium results in bone spurs; kidney stones do nothing to prevent these but are a sure sign that the AS is being mismanaged, and mis-treated: Once I found out how to properly treat my AS I went from approximately an average of 3 large stones annually to zero; I have not had a single stone in over 12 years. It must be more than just being out of calcium (I do have osteoporosis after so many years of mismanaged AS), for I sure take a lot of Ca and other supplements (including strontium, boron, copper, magnesium, and zinc).

Make Your meals of raw walnuts--and good to drink cranberry juice or watermelon seed tea--until the stones pass. You can have that information; I no longer need it! [KNOCK WOOD]

HEALTH,
John

yep.
I have them too. My dad who had AS and UC like me, had them too - just like John - 2/3 big ones per year.
Fortunately for me at this moment, i only have small ones - 1 mm. Seems the diet helps there also by lowering the inflammation.

34. Some rheumys say AS stage 1-2 some others say USpA
Also UC - rectocolitis.

UC curently in remission since feb 2011.
AS/USpA remission march-aug 2011. Flare - sept-nov 2011 (antibiotics). Remission now...

Modified NSD/SCD. Cook your own !

One of my docs told me peeps with AS do not absorb calcium properly so it could be AS and you are not breaking it down absorbing it and it just stores in your kidneys then turns to stones.

Bent but not broken.
