Hi there, welcome back! smile

I am sorry to hear you're in such pain, but am uncertain as to whether incontinence can be caused by AS. There may be other things going on. If you are a woman of a certain age, for instance ... (you don't mention whether you are male of female, so I'm guessing).

Whether or not walking 8 miles a day is good or bad for AS depends on where your pain is. Generally, walking is not bad for us, but are you on concrete? Are you wearing good shoes that support your feet and legs properly? Do you feel pain anywhere at some point during the day that might be from being on your feet all day?

Talk all you need. That's what we're here for. And being scared is pretty normal. We all experience that. hugss

Hugs,

Kat

Hi welcome back, but sorry things have got worse for you.

I've had a lot of bladder problems that seem to be coming from my sacral nerves. As I don't yet have an AS diagnosis I couldn't say if it was related, however I believe Bladder problems can be part of AS if you have significant inflammation around the sacral nerves. This can cause the nerve to the bladder to be pinched. You could also have a partial cauda equina from pinching of the nerves in the lumbar spine area - both are fairly rare though. The only way you are going to be able to tell what is causing bladder problems is to have some investigation. Urodynamic studies are good, or even just a bladder scan after you have tried emptying your bladder to see if you are retaining urine.

my mother had this problem and not eating certain things and taking a drug (think it was a muscle relaxant) helped her with this problem.

i had the "pee a little when you sneeze or laugh" problem, but inner core strengthening exercises, while not helping the SI joint, which was the goal, did help the this other problem.

don't know if my mothers problem was undiff spondy related or not.

oh yes, the feet.

if i'm mostly off my feet, they do pretty good. but if i'm on them too much, then they are awful. i went to a meeting in april and tried being on them, standing, walking, etc, and after a few days of that, had to basically stay off them. it was in a city, on concrete. if i had to walk that much, i'd have to be on stronger drugs for sure.

i've really analyzed the best shoes for me. though what works for each of us might differ a bit, do think that's an important consideration.

when you ask about becoming dependent on pills. do you mean pain pills / narcotics. i'll let someone else answer that. if you mean anti-inflammatories, not sure one does become "dependent", though i could be wrong.
