Hello, ASkickers. I'm curious as the whether anyone else has experienced an inflamed lump in a calf muscle. I've had a persistent rock-like lump in my right calf for nearly 3 weeks. It's extremely painful and sometimes keeps me awake at night. During the day it is manageable with ibuprofen, but I'd like not to rely on that.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hi infradiggy
A couple questions. Did this lump appear after an injury or surgery? Is it hot or red? If so, see a doc asap, could be a blood clot, very dangerous.

Is it a defined lump within the muscle, or is it the whole muscle that is hard? Is it hot or red?

I often have really hard calf muscles, that can go into a real cramp. I'm sure mine starts with enthesitis (achilles tendon) and when that inflammation isn't under control the whole muscle reacts.

i'd probably see a doctor about it. as cindy said, if blood clot, then dangerous.

do you use muscle relaxants, does that make it better? does stretching make it better? does hot or cold make it better? if so, then it sounds more like a tight muscle. mine get tight for the reasons cemc described, but these things do helps some. and it gets especially tight if 1) i'm walking a lot and start getting bad PF or 2) i get an AM calf cramp.

Could it be a muscle tear by any chance? What were you doing when you noticed it?
Have you had it looked at by your doctor?

Thanks for the words and thoughts, people. This one pretty much popped up out of nowhere (no specific injury or surgery). I am a cyclist and have been off the bike for 3 weeks trying to wait this thing out. I finally lost patience and rode up a mountain yesterday. Strangely enough, it seemed to loosen it up and I was able to keep it at bay through a lot of massage throughout the day and a touch of ibuprofen.
