If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I checked out Bee Wilder's site, and it has some interesting info. I'll try going without any sugar for a while to see what that does (I'm already off dairy). I will also stop by GNC today to see what probiotics they may have. I've been taking SSZ lately, so I wonder about stopping that to see what happens.
Thanks all!
AS symptoms started 1991. Official dx in 2006 with HLA-B27+, fused SIJ, bone spurs in back, extreme rib/hip pain, and other family with SpA. Started Enbrel in 2006 with good results, but stopped in 2010 due to nerve damage (MS) from it. Getting good results with no-starch diet since 2011.

Hi, Alinus:
I was certain that I had responded to this before, but apparently it did not go through...probably my own fault as things are busy for me these days.
Regret Your experiences, however this antibiotic is NOT RECOMMENDED for Klebsiella pneumoniae and will only create resistive colonies.
Also, antibiotics can and do take apart the mucosa gut lining and while not damaging the epithelium directly, the reduction of mucosa can expose existing lesions that were previously "passivated" or inactivated by the mucosa layer.
The wrong antibiotic and the wrong time can really mess us up. I have done this to myself, also, when I was experimenting with oral agents, taking nearly everything I found in the Mexican "Farmacias."
And although I agree that antibiotics are not for everyone, I would say that there are much better ways to administer the RIGHT agents that would help both conditions plus avoid the flare ups.
HEALTH, John

Hi John.
Fortunately i'm really good now. I've rechecked my diet - removed some offensive stuff (that was tolerated before the antibiotics - speaking of gut flora changes after antibiotics...) and i've passed over this.

well, i must get back to this thread and say that i still have to find my way after the antibiotics episode. my SED rate increased - still low, but higher than i've ever had it. there's a lot of foods that worked before and now seem to get me into trouble - probably the lining of my gut was so disrupted that my immune system reacts to almost everything. and coffee - something that i was glad to re-add into my daily customs - seems to be a bad omen for me. it's not a big flare, i'm having good and bad days (well - mostly bad nights - sleep becomes a big problem after 4 a.m., but the days are mostly ok) but it's longer than expected and there are some areas in my spine where the inflammation is always present - the C8-T1 area and the T12-L1 area. the more i sink into this the more the need for higher carbs grows. i believe it's a natural reaction of my body in order to counter-attack depression episodes. fortunately i have some good news to hold on to - my wife is pregnant (11 weeks now) and this time the pregnancy seems to go well. it's a hard time, but it could be worse so wish me luck.

Bummer. I hope you find relief soon. I'm mostly over my bad episode with an antibiotic. Hey, congrats on the baby!

Hey Alinus, that sux about the rebound reaction after antibiotics.
I have a theory - sudden increases in microbial flora >> lead to a spike in immune activity >> lead to a short term increase in AS activity.
Stopping the antibiotics suddenly would fit that theory, and also a reaction to probiotics, inulin, etc

10x greg @zark - short term does not means 2-3 months does it? anyway antibiotics can trigger a flare. possibly the wrong antibiotics or all antibiotics.

Alinus, HI. My friend Zark is right on, with some of us... ending antibiotics seems to send us into a flare, especially if we have not been on a starch / milk fast...
I stopped taking antibiotics some years ago for my jaw and teeth problems, it always made me go into a worse flare. Now I suffer through those jaw pains and have more teeth to show for it.
You are on the right track, I sure wish you and your family the very best!!! Rather than take the drugs I stay at home for a bit, or close to a bathroom or make sure I have the heat or ice, to get me through the day. Keep us posted
I keep the New Covenant, when I fail....I am pulled back into place by HIM.

I would expect it to be in the period of a few days to a week. Point taken, wouldn't expect it to last a month.
Have you tried a fruit fast? Might be a good way to "reset" the gut flora..
