I think just about everyone would!!! My old PCP was the worst! I would make my appointment for 8 am because I figured she couldn't be too backed up by then, but it made no difference. I could count on an hour-and-a-half wait minimum. It was terrible! Thank goodness she's not my PCP anymore!

another doc vent..... grrrrrrrr

I just moved from a town with about 35,000 people in it. There were two rheumys there that both took the state insurance I have (since I am on SSI) I have since moved to the second largest city in the state of Washington (Spokane) and there is NOT one rheumy in this city that will accept the medical I have. First I find a family doc that won't see me until I get my records from the rheumy I had before, so that he can send me to one here.... which won't happen now because I have called every one of them and the same answer... NOPE not even with a referral. Then friday I am in so much pain and can barely move, but the records weren't recieved so can't see the family doc. Went to the hospital.. got relief from a dose pack of prednisone, and Ultram. And a referral to a different doc. Went to her today.... she can only see me the one time as a courtesy to the hospital as they don't accept my medical either. She gave me a prescript for mobic...(with no refills I might add so why bother??) and I am thinking this is so close to the other meds I am allergic to that I am scared to try it. I am at a loss here. I guess I just keep hoping that I don't get worse, or when I have really bad times like friday then head for the ER.... or drive 400 miles back to see my last rheumy who told me "AS is ONLY in the spine" and "women don't get it as severely so feel lucky" and a host of other myths. Then to top it all off tonight.... my tooth breaks on me and now that is PAINFULL!!! (I think I was clenching them too hard ) And being on the prednisone was told to be very careful of any infections... sigh.... so hope this gaping hole in my tooth does not get infected... I guess I will start on a hunt for a dentist tomorrow.

Dear Pam, It is sad to hear that its so hard to find a good doctor.I'm stunned that any doctor could let somebody suffer! I wish you LUCK in finding a good doctor in your new town. Know that I have my fingers crossed for you.

Thankyou so much. wow... after I read my post over again I realize just how frustrated I was last night. I will keep searching. Maybe I will get lucky and find a GP that knows something about AS. Last night I didn't feel like fighting anymore, but today I will pick up the phone again and keep at it. Thankyou for the encouragement, it is always appreciated.

I think we need to write our congressmen and complain that Medicade does not pay enough to Drs where they are willing to take on New People. With the cost of Maulpractice insurance going up and the lowering of benifits paid Doctors can no longer afford to take new paients. A lot of Doctors are giving up medicine because they can not make enough to cover insurance costs.

You know, I was talking to a woman recently who's moved from the States up here to the Toronto area. She said that she's not at all impressed with Canadian health care (the fact that her only experience is in one of the worst hospitals in the area notwithstanding) and that she would move back to the States in a heartbeat if it came to the need for more healthcare.

Then I read something like your story, where you can't even find a doctor that will take your coverage, and I remember how very lucky we are up here with universal healthcare. Makes me want to fight for our system even harder, because I've never had an experience like that and, touch wood, never will.

You're in my thoughts on this one and I hope you find a doctor with both compassion for your situation and the cojones to treat you regardless of your coverage.

I hope you are having a better day. Hopefully you were able to find a Dentist, pronto!
I am waiting for my appt. with the Rheumy, being that they wouldn't see me because I was gonna be late. I hope you are able to find a Doc soon.
