I went to my derm today due to a few random little spots on the bottom of my foot. He said it was fungus and to just go get some lamicil cream. Could this be in any relation to candida (sp?). I am also on doxycycline for acne but I believe the spots were there before I started the antibiotics.

I have never had any fungus problem before but I'm wondering if my new diet and more fruit sugars lately like green grapes and raisins contributed?

Any input is appreciated!

Did he do a scraping for culture? (Takes up to 3 weeks to grow and identify)
Candida is a possibility but it could be one of a number of other possible fungi - they usually attack the nail bed and between the toes.
Fungi are often recoverable from many public / motel / hotel etc showers - so is it Tetracycling related? - who knows.

He did do a scraping and I only waited about 10 minutes for him to come back and say it was fungus. Not sure why it didn't take 3 weeks (?)

When a scraping is done some of the bigger fragments are put on a microscope slide, a drop of KOH added to soften the skin cells, a cover sip placed on top, and the preparation looked at under a plain microscope.
If the characteristic fungal mycellium are present then the diagnosis is confirmed.
To actually culture and speciate the fungus can take from roughly 3 to 21 days.
Sometimes the fungi may not be obvious under microscopy so that in those cases culture can be more definitive.

Are you a doctor or something? Judging by a lot of your posts, you seem to have the medical lingo down, lol!
