I have a question to all who have had scleritis, uveitis or iritis. Did any of you have any symptoms prior to the red eye? Lately my eye has been leaking like a tap something I just wrote off as dry eye syndrome but I woke up this morning and now have a growth on my eye and the veins are pretty red as well its tender and my vision is rather blurry. I have an appointment tomorrow with optometrist but I just wanted fellow AS input
Again thank you for all replies smile

Hi,
Yes I do have symptoms before my eye goes red but not as you describe. My eye feels slightly bruised and sore and sensitive to light, sometimes it just feels different like I am aware of it all the time a bit lioke as if I have strained it using it too much.

A growth on your eye? Could you have scratched it somehow and it is now infected. I have had that (working in an environment with lots of fine fibres and using contact lenses at the time) but caught it quick before any visible syptoms as it was agony to put my contact lenses in. I went to my optician who gave me a letter to the emergency clinic. There was a tiny abscess on my eye only visible with dye and the light an opthalmologist would use. He said it would have been extremely painful.

I am no expert but eyes are important I would get yourself to an emergency clinic as soon as possible before it gets any worse.

Yes, emergency clinic if possible. Optometrist may not be good enough unless they are trained and have the specialist equipment to look for eye diseases. You really need a medically trained opthalmologist doctor for this. But, if its difficult to get into one of those, then sometimes a preliminary assessment by an optometrist can get you referred as an emergency to one. Make sure you stress to the optometrist that you have autoimmune disease and are concerned about the possibility of inflammatory eye problems, and if they have any concerns at all, ask them to try and help facilitate you being seen by a specialist.

I hope you feel better soon please let us know how you are doing.
Yes, before the redness is present I often have a swollen, achey feeling, or a tender, scratch feeling, as though there is something in my eye, also a feeling of pressure from behind. It can vary flare by flare.

Well the good news is I have no damage to my eye but I do have what's called puetigula(spelling?) it's not harmful but can impair vision if it keeps growing to reach my pupil. He said its quite common in people who are outside alot which I found funny cause I am never outside but anyways he gave me drops to lubricate my eye for discomfort and told me if it gets inflamed to come in right away for steroid drops. Thanks for your fees back its always appreciated smile
