If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I have been practicing a NSD for 2 days now, and this evening (or last night, technically) I had terrible back pain. I haven't had back pain so bad in a while, so I was caught off-guard by it.
So....coincidence or does it have something to do with eliminating starch from the diet?

Get ready for a roller coaster ride. Just hang on and keep your faith! A few months will fly by, and you should start to notice a significant drop in your body's overall inflammation markers, at least this is how I experienced it. It will feel very 2 steps forward, 2 steps back, 3 steps forward, 1 step back. Just keep stepping with it. As I always say, what do you have to loose but pain?! They are plenty of people who will try to discourage you from continuing, but I and some others on this forum will be here to encourage you!! Just pamper yourself as much as possible while putting your body through a bit of a shock to the system in changing the way it adapted to certain food sources. Make sure to set aside time for rest, hot baths, and healing! Here is a great blog about AS & dramatic diet changes: http://farmerkskitchen.com/ks-reboot/ - and overall healing. Also, she wrote about the pains of detoxing: http://farmerkskitchen.com/2012/03/25/detoxingsymptomsarearealpain/
I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/

I would think you would have a whole lot of variables in play at the moment, and its far too early to say what is causing what. Hang in there.

lol cemc, I would say that you are right. Today I will chalk it up to lack of sleep!
I am still feeling optimistic, though, and am excited to be taking control over my body.

Kim- increased pain is often the characteristic of a new beginning.
please remember that many of us post as an expression of what is inside us. so post away, I think addressing the pain is part of what can make us stronger...
take confidance in knowing your over all health will improve by your self control ..
I always have increased pain when I fast.... I always feel more alert and enjoy the sense of incresed awareness that comes from NSD and fasting
I keep the New Covenant, when I fail....I am pulled back into place by HIM.

Thank you, Lon. So I am guessing it has something to do with flushing the toxins out of our bodies? Perhaps it causes a temporary increase in pain?
The best part about this, for me, is knowing that no matter what, this is a positive thing. Even if I don't achieve expected results, I am adopting new, healthier eating habits. It is a win-win situation.
I am so excited to be here and to get to know everyone here. It is nice to have the support of others who are in a similar situation. It can be so easy to isolate yourself and fall into a black hole, when it comes to dealing with this disease. Which I think has definitely happened to me over the past few months. But no more of that!

Hi Kim, It took me awhile to feel better on the NSD and I have read several places where people that react to foods feel worse before they feel better.
I would take one day at a time and try hard to stay with it. It made such a difference for me to stay away from grains and animal products, but I have RA. I hope you feel better soon.Take care.
Diet change has improved my RA. I feel best eating raw veggies and some fruits and avoiding grains, sugars, nightshades, beans and dairy. Sed rate dropped from 65 to 19, but it took over a year. www.fatsickandnearlydead.com excess fat/oils = pain for me recipes for raw food on Youtube "raw food romance" and "healing josephine" Josephine is in remission from RA after two years by change diet/exercise

It can really be tough while you're still figuring out what your body can handle...
I felt pretty bad the 1st week I tried to move from low-starch to approaching no-starch, and it turned out to be that I am sensitive to one of the highly recommended replacement foods -- eggs. In particular, egg white, which is actually a very common food intolerance among people with poor digestive function. After a few days of eating one or more eggs every day my intestines got extra irritated. Then there was the additional disadvantage of not getting enough fiber at first, and I tried psyllium fiber pills which were *really* bad for me, started to bring on an iritis attack so I had to go back on over-the-counter naprosyn for a bit.
