If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I was reading that the incidence of this gene is up to 24% of the population in Scandinavia. This was particularly interesting to me as my grandfather was Norwegian. Thanks Grandad!!! So I was wondering how many KickAs-ers know if they have a scandinavian ancestor and are we a representative bunch?

Scotland and Ireland here for ancesters, primarily - - but I've never been tested for HLAB27 so don't know if this input helps you much Cheryl Dogs believe in long term relationships

I'm half Finnish. Is Finland considered Scandinavia (My Dad is Finnish)? I'm also 1/4 Dane (Mom's side), but my Mom is HLA-B27 negative, so it had to come from Dad, didn't it?

Some sources put Finland separate from the rest of Scandinavia, but others lump them all together. Either way your Dad looks like the likely suspect Sharon!

The rascal is healthy as a horse (now that he's got his asthma under control) and has never had any type of arthritis pain! My poor Mom on the other hand has had back pain her whole life, and now has osteoarthritis in her hands, but is HLA negative?! Go figure?? Sharon

Lucy,
Of my 4 grandparents, one was a full blooded Swede and one was half Dane.
I'm curious where you read about this?
I have a relative on the Swede side who also has AS.

Hi Lucy....very interesting.... I just got off the phone with my dad....your post sparked some curiosity for me.....I found out ..that my dad's mom is Norwegian.....and...my dad....who has gout...is going to the docs on Monday...and after I read him your post...he is going to ask his doc to check him for the gene. Since I have tested positive..as well as my daughter Becca...I am really curious now to see if my dad is the carrier....one of my folks has it....but neither of them seem to show signs of AS. Thanks for the info Lovie Dovies...from Becca and Debbie

Guess that concept wouldn't apply to me. I'm 3/4 English and 1/4 Serb. Guess that puts me in the minority, eh?

Hi Lucy. I never heard that Finland was considered other than Scandanavian. Learn something new all the time : ) I'm Finnish (was born in Helsinki ) and I guess I carried the genes with me. Don't know too much about my ancestry except that I found a 1/2 brother and sister a few years ago so I'll have to ask them what's up. Cheers, Timo

The further north, the higher the incidence of HLA B27. Among eskimos it's 50%. Close to the equator about 1-2%. The reasons for this are often discussed on the stach free forum.
'Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on. 'I do,' Alice hastily replied; 'at least - at least I mean what I say - that's the same thing , you know.' 'Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter.
