My MRI shows this. Still waiting to hear back the results of the lumbar puncture done a month ago. And surprise! One of the Scoliosis curves is very close to my neck.

Corner sign eh......ummmmmmmmmmmmm think this probably means that your head might fall off<<<<<<<oh sorry, it might be a foot>>>>>>>>>can never remember which.............errrr

hmm, it didn't look 'shiny' to me but looked white in color. I thought it was strange how the corners on some discs he showed me looked like someone had used a cookie cutter to mark the corner. Why not a different area on the disc and not just the corners??

I think by 'shiny' they mean they are brighter white colour but definitely not shiny and new. From what I have been told regarding my MRI is these shiny or white areas show active inflamation where they can then progress to osteophytes wich lead to fusion. Well that is my lay mans interpretation.

And my doctor calls them 'demylinating plaques'. Are they are the same thing?

I had never heard of corner signs. All I could think of was street signs like Neck to the left, Shoulder to the right . Head straight ahead, bottom to the bottom. :o) Seriously I looked It up and did some reading. So now I know but I don't know that I really understand it. I am just thankful you got results and that the tests are over and now maybe you can get some help to feel better and get back to that schooling.

No, demyelinating plaques aren't the same thing, but they would also show up as white bits, but just in different places - like within the spinal cord, or nerves or brain, I think (the myelin sheath is the covering around nerves).

Lots of different things will show up as white areas on different MRI sequences (T1, T2, fat suppressed, STIR, etc). Thats why they do the different sequences or use contrast dye for looking for different things

Inflammation in bone shows up as white bits on STIR sequences, and with contrast.

A full bladder will show up as a big white area too.
