If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi guys,
I'm new around here, I'm thinking about starting the no starch diet. I have done Atkins before which is also low starch and my ank spond seemed to not be as active when I did this diet. So thought I'm going to try the no starch diet which would be similar to Atkins but with things like fruit I can have. Before I start though I need to make myself a plan of meals I can have, I was thinking 3 meals 2 snacks and drinks. Could people please suggest 3 meals I could have and snacks as I'm going to make a spread sheet and try and stick to it. Ideally I will have 7 different meals for each day so I am not eating the same thing all the time and there is a bit of variety to my diet. So here's my suggestions, please add your own:
Breakfast:
Sausage, Egg, Bacon, Mushrooms, Tinned Tomato (English breakfast without toast)
Lunch:
Ham Salad
Snack 1:
Chicken snacks (Mattson's Fridge Raiders)
Dinner:
Steak with broccoli and gravy
Snack 2:
Chocolate bar (Cadburys solid chocolate)
Drinks:
Water, Coca-Cola, Pepsi
Could you advise me if I have included anything which may contain starch and could you please suggest meals I could eat on another day, I am trying to get 7 days each with different foods.
Copy and paste this to add your meals if it helps:
Breakfast:
Lunch:
Snack 1:
Dinner:
Snack 2:
Drinks:
Thanks
Joe

Skip the sugars, nightshades, cocoa and meats with added starch before you know you can handle them. /Loha

Way to go! feedback if it helps: what are Mattson's Fridge Raiders? I'm sure you've checked the ingredients but if you need help around that, feel free to post the ingredients. : ) What kind of dressing for your ham salad? Just checking. Tomatoes are out for some people, do you know how to test with iodine? Some people have a bad reaction to them regardless of starch. I hope you can enjoy them. I'd suggest cutting out the Pepsi and Coke, or just having them on special occasions, because the ingredients in these beverages are are challenging for anyone, but more for people with inflammatory stuff going on. Green tea sweetened with honey, add some sparkling water, pure grape juice with water and ice, peppermint tea iced...lots of options. Other ideas: for breakfast/lunch/dinners: roast a chicken and have salad greens prepared for a few meals, berries and honey for snacks, canned salmon and olive oil, spinach, melon. Snack attack: Hardboiled eggs for snacks Lettuce to hold sandwich fillings such as chicken and cheese and mustard. If you miss toast and bready things, coconut flour can bake into a many treats. If you are not a baker, here's an easy recipe: grease a mug fill with: 1 tablespoon coconut flour 1 egg 1 tablespoon melted butter or coconut oil 1 tablespoon of milk, coconut milk, or water dash of vanilla pinch of salt squeeze of honey microwave for a minute or a bit more and you've got a muffin in a mug. Cheers!

Gravy frequently has flour or cornstarch in it so be careful with that. There are some low starch thickeners out there you can use instead. Wish I could remember them off hand right now for you but I can't. I'll think on that. Meantime, a big help for us is I always keep a batch of egg salad in the refrigerator for my husband (he's the patient). Or tuna salad or chicken salad. Something like that always at the ready so you're not tempted to go off when you're famished and need something right away.
Husband diagnosed with AS in '92. Enbrel appx 2011- March 2013 when ER doctor temporarily terminated. Grateful to have finally found Kickas in April 2013 and NSD since May 2013. Since NSD no need to resume Enbrel. Enbrel only helped hip pain, did not touch chest pain. Since NSD, both hip and chest pain have improved. Still takes pain and other pills daily, but far fewer.

Jan that sounds terrific! Easy, quick and tasty. Do you beat all the ingredients together before adding to the greased mug?

MaryL, you can mix the ingredients right in the mug, but I often do mix it in a separate container first. Either way. You can google more recipes for paleo cake in a mug, muffin in a cup, almond flour, coconut flour cake in a mug etc. Lots of online recipes. : )

Breakfast: Chia & Fruit Pudding. 1 cup almond milk, 1/4 cup chia seeds, vanilla extract, 1 spoonful honey. Stir well. Add in blueberries or other fruit. Wait 20 minutes for pudding to form. Much like tapioca, and VERY filling! Chia seeds have great protein, omega 3 & 6, and soluble & insoluble fiber, sustainable energy. Can also make a double batch of this, or add in hemp seeds & raisins. Lunch: Big Greek Salad. Fresh Greens, Kalamata olives, fresh cucumbers, pickled red onions, sesame/garlic/lemon tahini dressing (homemade), tomatoes (if you tolerate, I don't). Serve with homemade seed crackers, (sesame, hemp, chia, and sunflower (a few have said sunflower are starchy, but they don't test starchy for me). Snack 1: The Raw Bronwnie, YUM. Recipe: http://mynewroots.org/site/2011/04/the-raw-brownie-2/ Dinner: Salmon with a tamari/maple syrup glaze. Roasted brussel sprouts. Sauted garlic spears, sautéed mushrooms with onions & bell peppers. Fresh salad with homemade honey mustard dressing (with a homemade raw mustard) (this is what we had for dinner last night for a dinner party I hosted) Snack 2: raw almond milk & raw cacao & dates & ice into a "milkshake". Or almond butter & celery sticks. Handful orgnaic dried fruits. Drinks: Red wine, grapefruit & vodka ("greyhound"). Vodka, maple syrup, coconut milk, Dandy Blend coffee substitute. I also drink lots of green smoothies on my website. Hard apple cider (we also make our own). I stay FAR away from the corn syrup sodas. They do not treat me well at all. Wish you all the best!
I'm now a KICK AS (and Kick IBD) success story!! After going low starch Paleo to heal my gut, I can now eat nearly all starches, grains & foods without inflammation, flare-ups, or pain. I used a modified SCD diet approach (minus dairy! plus cacao ♥). Cheers to healing & thriving again! I blog at http://www.forestandfauna.com/about/

Hello Joseph ! It's good you're giving the NSD a go, I'll tell you what i'm eating it might help you get inspired. I think it's good if you try and eat as much "natural" stuff as possible : by this I mean, read the ingredients list and if there are words on there you don't understand, avoid it (so that would rule out things like Coke, Fridge raiders...). I buy mostly "whole" stuff, that haven't been transformed, and then you control what you eat because you KNOW what you eat. So for breakfast, I usually have a green juice (cucumber, fennel, celery, mint, lime juice) or a freshly squeezed orange juice and a mug of tea (i add a bit of honey if i feel like it or if i'm hungry coz honey is quite filling). I have my first proper meal a couple hours later, it'll either be an "english breakfast" if i'm home : eggs, tomatoes, bacon or eggs, spinach and smoked salmon, or if i'm working I'll take with me a salad (made with leaves, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, onions, avocado, radish, gerkins) with some sort of protein (tuna, smoked salmon, shrimps, chicken, hard boiled egg, cheese, ham...) and homemade vinaigrette dressing. I have a large serving so it keeps you fuller than you'd think ! Afternoon snack is a smoothie i make with coconut milk and fruit, i try to have fruit that is in season, as it's more likely to be ripe enough and therefore starch free, so at the moment mainly : pineapple, melon, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, cherries... If I'm extra-hungry I'll have almonds or dried fruits, but I'm trying to shed a bit of weight so I go easy on those as they are a caloric bomb ! For my dinner, I'll have either meat or fish that i get from my butchers or fishmongers, i try and go for meat that has been raised properly and not fed crap. Luckily in France most meat, especially beef is grassfed. I cook it with spices, or make it into a curry using coconut milk, veg and spices (just make a bigger portion as you won't have rice with it!), or make a sauce with créme fraiche, wine, and seasoning (a lot of shop-bought sauces and gravies will have starch in it, as do stock cubes !). With it i'll either have a side salad, or if i fancy cooked veg i'll have broccoli or spinach, artichoke, kale, cabbage... I'll also make my own sorbet with frozen fruit I blend with coconut milk and honey and then chuck in the freezer (or in an ice cream maker if you have one, it'll be creamier). I then top it up with a fruit coulis (frozen fruits slowly cooked in a bit of water and a touch of honey : job done !) and some fresh fruit, and i can tell you this dessert kicks [*bleep*] !! I try to stay away from refined sugars, but for those sociable occasions or just when you fancy a treat, I have : a meringue, or a White chocolate magnum or white chocolate or i'll bake something. Carole Sinclair's book has a lot of cakes recipes using almond flour as a replacement for normal flour, I made her chocolate cake last week-end for a family reunion and people that didn't know it wasn't a "traditionnal" chocolate cake didnt' notice any difference ! I'll stop rambling on now, but don't hesitate if you have any questions !! All the best !! Marion

Get prepared and home cook as much as possible. Cut out processed foods and sugar as much as poss.
Morning hot breakfast: use a crock pot on a timer to cook whole cored apples with honey. I also do blueberries with this method.
Roast a chicken. You have a hot meal and then cold chicken for snacks. Boil the bones for many hours and you get very good broth with loads of nutrients in to made veggy soup; you can also put chicken meat into the soup to get a very hearty meal. To make thick soup; put chopped celery, broccoli, greens, courgettes, or what ever veg you want into boiling broth, the uncooked veg should be slightly higher then the volume of liquid. Boil half hour then I wizz it all up to make it smooth and easily digested.
You can also make fish stock and beef stock. Worth investing in a crock pot so you can boil bits when you are out.
STock making has become an industrial process for me ! I get 4 raw organic carcasses delived weekly just for that purpose.
I also make cookies every 2 days; 200g packet of ground almonds, tea cup of dried coconut, half tea cup of raisins, slice of butter melted in the oven, 2 eggs, good squeeze of honey (about half tea cup) mix all together, flatten mix onto greased tray, cook 15-20 mins at 150 C until browning, cut into squares and cool.
It is important not to over dose on almonds, and meat protein. Balance with veggies and raw salad
