Last week was a No sugar and no carb week.

I experienced pains migrating from the head to feet - only usually for half a day each almost like there was a gang of maintenance staff going round and fixing things with hammers.

BTW a hammer is the best tool for am mechanic - the official term is a tappometer.

would the pain be fixing pain or just more damaging pain?

maybe some pain is good for us?

I do hope is there is such thing. I started the NSD recently, almost 3 weeks now, but I don't see much difference so far, there are days that it's even worst than before I started it. Hope it gets better in the long run, or I might be doing something wrong who knows....

I believe it varies from individual to individual but yeah you might experience some issues as your body adjusts to your new diet. Especially if you recently cut out wheat from your diet which people can be somewhat addicted to and suffer various withdrawal symptoms. It can take a while for your body to switch over from carb burner to fat burner as well.

I remember feeling weak and drained at times and I sometimes fixed it by having a little sugar (small bowl - like 1 scoop - of full fat natural ice cream) with maybe a shot of espresso on it. Fixed me within 5 minutes.

2 years on and I don't have problems like that any more now that I'm fully fat adapted. I sometimes get surges of energy after 16 hours of not eating anything at all.

Absolutely, Kiteboarder!

Depending on what circles you run in, it could be called a "healing crisis" or "herxheimer reaction" - These are the two names I use the most.

Any time we remove a substance from our diet that has been causing problems, the body can become reactive, not dissimilar to going off a bad drug. Depending on your own body's issue with the absent food and whether or not you were addicted to it, can alter how big or small the reaction is or how long it lasts or even how long it takes for it to kick in.

I like real life examples, so I'll give you a few of mine: When I went off coffee, I suffered with sleepiness and fatigue for an entire month, and then all-of-a-sudden, I was fine again. I am very glad I didn't cave and go back to the coffee, as I have been free of its problems in my body for decades now.

When I was given my first, huge list of food reactions and went cold-turkey, I ended up producing so much gas, I kept doubling over in pain and unable to walk. I took an allergy lab's advice and took charcoal capsules for a while to absorb the gas, and eventually I was fine.

When I quit potatoes, that was different. I did not feel a difference or even begin to feel better until more than three months passed. I still don't quite get what potatoes do to me, either.

Hope that helps, and hope you feel better soon. (I did the no-sugar, no-carb breakup back in the 80s and have somehow forgotten what my reactions were. I do, know, though, that I was strict about it for six months and then (thank goodness) lost my desire for sweet things and have never gotten it back.)

I think there are two potential things that are related but may be different. Someone mention Herx or Herxheimer reactions. The other possibility is a phenomena that some call "retracing".

I'm not sure how much validity there is to it - I don't think there's any science behind it. But then again, my whole perspective of how the human body works has been changed. You can google it and decide for yourself what to think.

Remember that now you are of sugars, to make sure you get enough healthy oils/fats and eat enough non-starchy carbs.

This is the only possibility I can think of as well... but I never experienced it without fasting personally.

But I may not have had large number of klebsiella bacteria to begin with when starting diet as I was on azulfadine that is a sulfer medication that has antibiotic properties from what I read.

Best,

Tim

Besides the usual Herx reaction (which is pretty well known), I have had something that may be comparable to what you are experience. When I was really sick once I was vomiting and had diarrhoea which went on until I was completely cleaned out. From that point on I went on a water only fast for a few days and felt amazing.
What happened ... some past injuries would feel quite sharp pains briefly, one by one, but only for a few minutes each. For instance I had an ear infection some months beforehand, and that ear would experience sharp pains for maybe 2 or 3 mins, and then suddenly clear up.

Oh as far as Herx reactions - maybe my most frequent and overt Herx reaction is sinusitis / rhinitis. Certain foods/medicines kill the cause (Lufenuron, and maybe also pepper / mountain pepper / coconut oil pulling?) which seems to be fungal in small intestine, and then my sinus will act up for maybe about 10-20 mins before clearing. Thats the bugs dying and upsetting my immune system. It is pretty consistent with the Lufenuron, so I am quite sure this is what I am experiencing.

Absolutely! Especially when cutting out sugar. Candida die off can be very rough.
