Hi all - Does anyone know why SAMe was withdrawn from the market in Canada? We just noticed this on a recent trip to BC. I have been taking 600 mg of SAMe daily for several months and wonder if I should continue. By the way, it definitely makes my mornings easier. Wow, I have not heard of that...I have taken SAMe for a month or two at a time....after hearing about it helping to control inflamation, and helping the liver....
I have not taken it regularly in about two months...it is expensive, and I will buy MSM and Flax Seed Oil first...
I will be on the lookout now, for sure....

Linc - Thanks for responding. Hope you got some rest. I just found this press release regarding SAM-e (hope the attachment works...). Sounds like the withdrawl has nothing to do with research of safety or efficacy. I guess we shouldn't find it surprising that the regulatory powers-that-be are wanting a piece of the action. This supplement is so popular now in the west, I feel for good reason. Hope we can still find it, not to mention affordably (ha!). Our present source is Nature Made brand sold by Costco at approximately .56 US per pill. Not a great price I know, but this manufacturer seems to produce the best (most effective) product. I believe they may sell it online. I have found noticable effect only when taking at least 600 mg of SAM-e. Have MSM and Flax been helpful for you? As a nursing mother, I am limited to Tylenol for relief of a persistent flare, and very interested in alternative treatments. Wow!
It seems like everybody wants a piece of the action! SAMe is already expensive, and probably competes with anti-depressants and arthritis drugs produced by the big companies....hmmmmm.... a naturally occurring substance that helps depression, inflamation from arthritis, and liver problems...all in one pill.....man, that is dangerous to sales for maybe four different drugs offered by the drug companies....if listed as a drug, I'm sure the big companies would start producing it in mass quantities right away, and do it cheaper than the vitamin companies, as their goal would be controlling market share....Dr. Evil is lurking somewhere closeby, I can smell him....
Recently Kava was in the news, causing organ problems supposedly....
Aspirin was from a tree bark, am I right? And yet the synthetic version would be called a drug...so is a natural remedy a drug, or only the synthetic version of it????
I generally feel good when I'm on Flax Oil, MSM, SOD, sometimes SAMe...but I can flare up if I am not consistant, and recently the extreme weather changes in NYC have thrown me for a loop...the Flax pills only have about a gram per pill of oil, but a tablespoon of liquid has 5 to 10 I think....I just got some liquid high lignan Flax Oil, cold pressed...just took some before bed!

Seems like a bunch of companies are doing this, can't remember the name, but I checked out another that mailed you the pills you couldn't buy here in the US...

SAM-E is great for AS among other things like liver detox and mood elevation but keep dosing consistent

The SAMe product from Bioglan says that you should take it with:
* Vitamin B6, B12, Folate, and Vitamin E
from memory, this would actually help your body produce its own SAMe.
