If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

My 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with AS almost two years ago after several years of on and off joint pain, migraines and other symptoms )migraines have improved significantly with treatment for AS . HMMMM) After her diagnioses, the rheumy took another look at me and said I have AS along with the lupus, my main diagnoses. I was diagnosed with lupus five years ago after a couple of years of symptoms. Kate and I are both HLA B27 negative. My other daughter has IBS and athsma. I was a child living in small rural towns, moved to the suburbs in my teens. Back to a small town 8 years ago. Sandi It's a dog's life!

Hey George Sorry to hear you have gained any weight. Weight has always been a big problem for me. By my early 20's I was basically locked in at about 125 and no matter what I did couldn't add more than a pound or two. My stomach obviously hasn't been through all you'rs has but nothing helped. If I got sick I'd lose 10 pounds in a blink and take months to gain it back. Well I stepped on scale for first time in months late last week. Added 15 pounds. I did double and triple take. Only changes are my feeble attempt at LSD and no matter how bloated I feel drinking 2 beers a night. I know the beer thing didn't work for you but I was shocked. I am actually eating less since very little time and too tired in the a.m. for breakfast. My stomach gets bloated and feels tight so quickly if I eat large meal. There must be some sort of liquid that would help you. I believe the beer made the difference for me. Despite having befriended beer long ago I never gained weight because I never actually drank one or two with any regularity. I'm rambling but only because I was SO shocked to see a weight gain. 15 pound for me isunheard of. Maybe the beer is just blurring my vision and I really haven't gained an ounce. stevec-they also serve who stand and wait

HI Peachy! I am positive for the B27 gene, no one that I am aware of in my family has AS or even RA that I know of. I've been ruminating about how I got this disease. Like Ottis, I also grew up on a dairy, played around in BARE feet in the cow manure (WELL IT WAS FUN BACK THEN!), exposed to goodness knows what, drank unpasteurized milk. I live in the country, still on a cattle farm (not dairy though) and I have no idea what infection or bacteria may have kicked my AS in gear. Could be anything. We had a spring fed well as a kid, and even now I have well water. No real bowel issues, but had a urinary tract infection about 3 years ago... I could go on about what my exposures have been. Interesting thread! Darla

John,
Thanks for the info about false negatives.
About 10 years ago I tested positive for HLA B27 (and had some other abnormal test results as well). Then I felt better for awhile, but when I was in a lot of pain again went to a different dr. (had moved). He told me that I was HLA B27 negative and that all of my tests were normal. He explained my pain by saying that I must have had a bad childhood that I never got over.
Last year I again tested postive for HLA B27 which confirmed my suspicisons that the dr. I saw in the middle was a big time quack. So maybe it was a false negative and the guy could, after all, find his way out of a paper bag if he really had to.

Thank you Sandi for your reply. It is amazing to me that everyone has who is negative has a different background, rural, farmer's life, suburbs or city. My next rheumy visit, i'll try and pick his brain. I can relate on the migranes, I seemingly had one big migrane from 13 to 17. I wore glasses and thought that by not wearing them, I was paying the headache price. I would lie in bed and cry sometimes, I am very glad to see that your daughters Dx came early. I wouldn't be dianosised til my hip was ready to be replaced at 22! Hope to chat with ya soon, take care til then. JP

Hi there Darla, thanks for your input. I laughed sooo loud my hubby asked if anything was wrong. The innocense of children is priceless (running bare foot around cow patties)! I have only one ?, what is a "spring fed well"? I'm justa city slicker, I've tasted well water a few time (Yuck!), but don't know any terms. Hope to chat with ya later, til then, take care. JP
