Hi all

Thanks to everyone who sent PMs on my question about having a steroid injection in my knee. Your replies were really helpful. A couple of weeks ago I had the injection. Initially the knee responded well and I must say I am glad to say the injection itself was not as painful as I had anticipated. The swelling was reduced and I was able to walk much better. However, after a couple of days the pain and swelling returned and felt much worse than before. I seem to have a few days when the knee feels quite mobile followed by a few days when the pain and stiffness come back. Also, a few days ago I noticed a lot of clicking in the knee joint when walking around - although there isn't any particular pain that comes with the clicking. Has anyone else had similar experiences? At this atage would it be best to wait for the steroid to take full effect or should I go back to the doctor?

Thanks eveyone

Stephen

Hi Stephen!
I have had a shot in my right knee. Unfortunately the swelling came back after a few days. I had pain at time of shot....then more pain the day after.....then relief for several days after that! BUT although the swelling returned....I have not had the sharp "dagger-like" pain in the right side of my knee....that was very painful.

As far as the clicking...I get that..and crunching noise whenever I have to bend my knees. Its a horrible sound. My ortho said it's that condro patella something or other, but then changed it to being AS related on my last visit. He felt I was having a circulatory type problem due to the AS thus causing the frequent swelling. It only swells up a bit....but it comes and goes often, and I can no longer walk down stairs without it giving out.

I think the shots help, but only short term. I have used the heating gel pack and it works great for the swelling......

Take care......

Toodles!
Angie
