My husband has AS and now my 17 year old son has it. It makes me so sad. I wish I could take the disease away from my son and let it live in me. Both are doing great on remicade. My son has had 4 infusions so far. I sure see a lot of old familiar names from the past that helped me so much when my husband was first diagnosed. As a mother, I am always questioning if I am doing the right thing. What are the latest and greatest treatments on the horizon? Is NSD the best way to go? I am a terrible cook and I'm not sure if my son would ever agree to eating that way. I myself follow the Atkins diet and have for over 25 years because I just feel better. Why can't there just be a cure? Are there any teens on the forum? Feeling Blah.

We A.S. sufferers always worry if our children are going to inherit this terrible disease. You are now in that nightmare situation when you know your child actually has A.S. I have had A.S. for over 50 years and what I say to myself is that if I can live with A.S. then so can my children. Things are so much better now than they were when I first started with A.S. and are getting better all the time. We will be there with them to see that they get all the support and the very best and latest treatment.

I have two grown up children and the girl is diagnosed as "probably" A.S. I say "probably" because as you will know A.S. is such a difficult disease to diagnose. My children have seen me grow old with my A.S. I am now 70 years of age and they know what to expect should they inherit it. Knowing before hand can only help them manage A.S. should they ever need to.

So don't make yourself ill by worrying about your sun. I am sure he will manage just as his father has managed. If fact with the help of his parents and modern medicine he will come through probably even better than his father has.
