Recent research has shown a connection between other autoimmune type of illnesses and allergies. The most recent showing a connection between RA and allergies. Also recent research has shown a connections between endometriosis in women, allergies and autoimmune illnesses. The research also showed a connection between endometriosis and AS.

So, since the haven't gotten around to researching the connection between AS and allergies, I would like to hold a little informal survey.

How many of you out there suffer from either airborne allergies or food intolerances?

I have had seasonal allergies off and on my whole life, but I suffered the worst from them right around the time that my AS became active. Now that I am going through a really good patch and I feel the best that I have since I got AS, my allergies also have waned. Even the intolerances to food, like gluten and dairy have backed off.

So let's see how many of you out there have allergies.

By the way, I attribute my feeling better to taking the supplement CLA. I started taking it 6 months ago because I read studies showing that the reason why Americans have so many allergies is because we do not get enough CLA in our diets. The reason is because of our unnatural farming techniques. Allegedly in less advanced countries that are agriculturally based, like the Ukraine, they do not suffer from the type of allergies that we do. I thought that I would give the CLA a try and didn't really see any results until a few weeks ago. Of course the docs all poo-poo me, but hey, CLA is a natural substance derived from safflower oil!
At least it is working!

Michelle

Michelle,

I have a lot of allergies, mostly food. Wheat and yeast are the worst. The others I can tolerate. The airborne are mold and dust. Dust is annoying, sneezing and runny eyes but molds will give me a migraine and put me to bed til I medicate it to death

I asked this question quite a while back and quite a few suffered from allergies. It's a good question I think and I wonder if we'll ever see some kind of connection.

Thanks for asking,

linda

Hi Michelle, I am lactose intolerant. Milk does not do my body good, if you know what I mean.

I'm a triple crown winner...........food allergies, airborn allergies AND endo! So, what do I win?????????? I guess I'd better give CLA a try (couldn't hurt).

Hi, Michelle:

Glad the CLA is helping. How much do you take and is there a certain time of day that you take it?

We have discussed allergies related to AS before, but it was a long time ago with mixed reviews...

I did have allergies that progressed into an asthma, but have not suffered in many years due to the starch-excluding diet. I'm almost certain that I know the mechanism involved, but still searching for some of my supporting references. I will make a post in the NSD forum with this information in a week or so, Allah willing...

Best Regards,
John

Hi,
So glad you posted this!!! I have endo and very severe AS so that link is quite disturbing. Do you have access to that research, Woomera? I wonder what the approach would be if this is true? Complete hysterectamy??? Very disturbing but not surprising. If you could lead me to that research I would be most grateful, Thanks!!

I take CLA at every meal, or at least after every meal. I take two 1000mg capsules. By the way the NOW foods CLA is cheap and just as good as the expensive kind.

Here is a link that dicusses the endometriosis and autoimmune diseases. I lost the link which talked about AS and endo, but this should be a good start. Also ladies, I have found that by taking a combo of Flax seed oil and borage oil in pure form three times a week, and by taking two1000mg capsules the rest of the week, my PMS and cramping has been greatly reduced. By Even my OB/GYN did not poo-poo me when I told him that one. He agrees that Flax seed oil and borage oil help to regulate female hormones. As we all know, the week before your cycle is the worst for the AS. It also helps to calm the irritable bowel syndrome as well. Not to mention that my skin is really soft!!

Thanks Michelle,
That is very helpful. I guess there could be a number of causes of AS, as i assume the men with AS don't have endo. It's all so baffling and disturbing as I have said. Hopefully the research will shed some light. Thanks again,
Deejane

Allergies Allergies Allergies!! That's me!! I have 23 food allergies (did a blood reaction test) and many environmental ones too (did a skin reaction test). I am now LSD and my AS & Iritis seem to be in remission. The starch I tolerate is in the form of my non-reactive foods. I try to eat even this starch in moderation.
Great Post,
Janet
