Just wanted to plant a thought. I realized how good I can feel when my mind is not focused on AS and a great way to do this is by helping others in need. Since the situation in Iraq has transpired, maybe now whould be a great time to help those who are in the military fighting for the freedom for us all, not just in the US but across the world. I just contacted my cousin who is a Warrant Officer in the US Navy about sending him a goodie package. He overwhelmingly said YES! Alot of these folks could stuck over there for quite some time. My family will be sending some chocolate chip cookies, some VHS tapes and various other goodies. What better way to help than to help those who have set their own desires and lives down so that we and others may enjoy the opportunity to live a life of freedom. Please, even if we don't know someone personally in the military, contact your local recruiting station or military organization and send a package. My wife's workers have done group packages. A grand idea! Sincerely, Painman. ><>

A very good idea indeed. We have a recruiting office not too far from here. Guess I will give them a call tomorrow.

It must be scarey to be so far from home, especially with the way things are now. Not everyone has someone to send them things or even to write to them.

Thanks for the idea Painman!

Lori

When I was over there in the Gulf War, I really appreciated those packages.

If you want ideas on what to send, think about stuff like Crystal Light -- you have to drink a lot of water over there (obviously), but the taste isn't the best! Crystal Light helps! If you are inclined to bake, make sure it's stuff that will keep, both during the long shipping process, and for a couple of days after it arrives (til it's eaten). Also, throw in a few paperbacks and magazines that you're done with -- we all liked having something to divert our minds during our off hours. Literally anything -- even used TV Guides have articles in them to read, which made me feel less out-of-touch with the real world. Oh, and microwave popcorn was a big hit! (Yes, we had all that stuff there!)

I think it is a good idea that would make someones day and when you help others you feel better about your self.

Very, very good idea.

Thanks Patty!! Great idea (paperbacks etc) I was going to take the box to work and finish filling it with packing....now I think I will dig through my books, which I been needing to weed out anyway, along with a note that if he isn't interested in them pass them on. We threw in a handful of pictures of the new baby which is his "unofficial" Godson and each of us wrote a letter. Hey how about instant coffee? I know James just loves coffee can I send that? Or is there not a need for it? They might need it to dunk the cookies in by the time they get there!! lol

I can hardly begin to imagine what it must be like over there. This kid is like another son to me. Thanks again for the info Patty :)

Hi Monica,

Nice to finally talk to you (instead of Bob -- well don't tell him that! He'll take it wrong!). Anyway, hi! Yes, the books and magazines will be appreciated, and I know it sounds disgusting, but you're better off to send storebought cookies, since they have preservatives in them and will fare better. Don't bother with the instant coffee -- we always had all he coffee we wanted! Above all, letters were the best!

Take care, hugs,

Patty
