Hi all,

This has been a very busy week for me and mine. My SIL left last night to serve one year in Bahrain. Even though he is a Navy man, and Bahrain is relitively safe and secure, I'm a little concerned for his safety. His job is Base Security so he'll be right there should there be a terrorist attack. I never dreamed I would feel that knot in the stomach that so many feel when their loved ones are sent into harms way. I know there are some of us who have friends or family members who are serving in the military and even some who are in Iraq or other hot spots right now...let's all say a prayer for their safe return home.

I went down Monday to help him pack, take care of the kids and to do anything I could to ease the situation. One thing I swore I would do before he left was to play a round of golf with him...which I did. BUT, due to the heavy rains Southern California has had lately, no golf carts were allowed on the local course (or any other we tried) so I, in a moment of insanity, insisted that we walk. Even in the best of times I have never dared to walked a full 18 holes. I am now a member of the walking dead! My pain is not that of AS...it's the pain any fool would get who had trouble making it to the mail box but walks 6,000 yards (actually, since I my trail went from the right rough to the left rough and back to the right again, it was more like 8,000 yards) It brought back unpleasant memories of the pain before the NSD straightened me out:( But it didn't stop there...with four healthy grandkids, ranging from 7 months to 8 years, I had no rest day OR night:)

To add to my discomfort, I promised my son I would watch my 6 year old grandson today because his mom had to attend a trade show out of town. Alex is VERY active boy who has a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do. As soon as we were alone, he decided to test his latest skills on me. Ever been beaten up by a 6 year old? Begging for mercy only makes them hit you harder!

I loved every exhausting moment but I'm paying big time now. I should have learned from Deanpaul's latest escapade!

Pete

Can totally understand... If I did 18 on a 6000 yd course would end up being 12000 by the end if I made it... So that cute little boy you are so proud of has taken to beating up on his Gramps... Guess we'll have to get you a taser or something like it to keep it fair...

Hope you recover soon and like you, Dean Paul and many others here I never have learned to stop until ugly ole AS stops me... Unfortunately my memory is short because even after swearing to never abuse my body again like that I end up doing it again and again... Kinda like Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day...

Recover quickly and hopefully remember next time (I never do )...

Mike

Hey Dan,

Lee from Florida here. Coming from a Military family and having been a soldier myself, I know what you are feeling with his deployment. I've watched family members deploy and felt that same knot. I've deployed and felt a different knot. lol The good news is this. With the safety zone that has been established in the Bahrain area, a soldier is at least 10 times more likely to get harmed back in the grand ole U.S. while making a routine trip to the grocery store. He made it through plenty of those "grocery store deployments", he will make it through this one too. I know that statistic is easy to say but hard to apply, which is why terrorism is so effective even though it is .5% action and 99.5% propoganda.

Hope that made sense.

As a Veteran I have a special burden in my heart for soldiers and as a Pastor I will add him and your/his family to my congregation's Military prayer list.

As far as your pain, I hope you feel better quickly.

Lord, please touch Dan.

Offering a good wish for the safety of your SIL and all those over there.

Mainly smiling at the image of you getting whooped up by a karate kicking and karate chopping merciless 6 year old grandson. Not many things better than that in life. WHen begging for mercy doesn't work hog-tie the little dude for about 10 minutes just to remind him you have a trick up ypur sleeve.

As for the golf, I still against better judgment under the guise of move it or loose it walk 2 rounds a year. Always come up 17 and 18 more concerned about surviving than the number I'm posting. I figure one year I'm gonna get to the turn at 9 and say give me the bloody cart I just don't ahve it in me anymore, but with the feeble way I hit the ball last year I figure walking the 18 once or twice is at least an accomplishment since my scoring is rarely much to speak of anymore. Still love it of course.

Feel better. I suspect its gonna be a long 72 or so hours, but well worth it.

Hey Pete,

Safe travel prayers for your SIL as he journeys to the Middle East.

Good to hear you got to spend some quality time with the grandkids, sorry to hear that you are paying for it. But once you are back to feeling yourself, you will probably look back at the time with fondness and forget all about the consequences.

Hope to see you in Vegas again!

Tim

Hey Pete,

I'll be thinking 'bout your SIL over the coming months, hoping that he is safe.

I must admit that I smiled at your description of being beat up by a six year old. They do enjoy it mightily when we protest, don't they.

As for your golf adventure, well, you know how I feel about golf having played the senseless game with me and all. I am sorry that you felt the need to push yourself to the extent that you were willing to walk the entire course. Frankly, having done that, I think you're nuts, but that's just me - the one who can't understand the allure of chasing a little white ball down a bunch of grass for four hours. Doing so without a cart, OK, you and Loz spoiled me for that and I requested a cart for last year's company golf day. Made the whole miserable experience alot less miserable.

As for chasing the darned ball from one side of the fairway to the other, have you been taking lessons from me??!

I hope you're feeling better soon, dear friend.

Many hugs,

Kat

Wow Pete, you've got a lot on your plate!

Hang in there.

The good news is that if you can take care of yourself I think you'll bounce back pretty fast. My over-doing occurred Friday/Saturday and the pain started Saturday night. I was on my feet again Monday and got off the Lortab that afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday were still Advil days, and I'd reset to my normal by Thursday morning.

Results may vary, but I know you can get through this. It sounds like your daughter is going to need you.

Your pal,

Deanpaul
