If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi there, I'm interested in educating me about the metabolism, science and chemistry of starches and other carbohydrates. Could you NSD experts please share some useful links and wisdom concerning this? Thanks/Andreas

First off there is one simple thing to remember. Generally sugars are fully digested before they exit the small intestine into the bowel but starches are not. Between 5 and 20% of wheat flower starch is not. And it is this extra food for the bacteria that causes the klebsiella population to grow to such an extent as to instigate the molecular mimicry and our disease.

thanks bilko, can I ask you how the NSD is working for you and how your experience of sulfasalazin is (I read you had been on that). I am salazopyrin now but it makes me very tired and my ancles are somewhat bad. I am planning to cut down on this and try the NSD. How did you change from medication to NSD ? (or maybe you are using both?) Myself I just don't think medication is a solution in the long run, but I must admit that it has kept my Crohn&AS under control the last two months. /Andreas

Andreas
I took salazopyrin many years ago and stopped using NSAIDs in 1997, not long after going starch free. I was feeling good on the diet so first I reduced the indomethacine and then stopped it. NSD and medication can be used together. Some people improve with the diet but still require some meds. See how it goes - if you feel better with the diet gradually reduce the pills. If you can get off them altogether it's a great bonus. You may even find the diet helps the Crohn's more than the AS.
