If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hello Luigi,
I’ve been following your posts for the last six months and I am glad that the treatments are beneficial for you. I have suffered for the last 30+ years and have tried everything known except the Radon treatment. I’ve noticed that there are two countries that advertise treatments; Gasteiner Heilstollen in Austria and Jachymov. From what I’ve been able to understand from their websites is that in Gasteiner Heilstollen, there are 10 treatments within the three week period in their underground cavern and in Jachymov it is done in a steel bath tub where on soaks for a twenty minute period.
Based on your research and personal experience, can you provide a summary of which treatment is the most effective?
Thanks.

Hello RC Pilot,
That's a good question. From everything I've read and from everyone I've spoken to both treatments do the job. As I've only done the soaking in a steel tub in Jachymov, I really can't make a comparison (although I hope to vist the Montana mines in the near future).
My first time at Jachymov I befriended a couple from Hamburg who had gone to the Gasteiner Heilstollen caves in Austria the year before (I think that's the one where you ride around in a train underground). They had been told by their doctor in Germany that radon is much more effective when it is taken in through the skin by water than through the lungs by gas. However, this is purely anecdotal.
In any case, I wish you the best. If you have anymore question, I'd be happy to answer.
Luigi

Hi guys! Again this year, my dad was in Jachymov for a month, he doesnt go to any other places any more as Jachymov is the most effective for him. He s been going to spas for 30 or so years and has been to many all over Czechoslovakia so he can compare and this Jachymov has been his choice for many years now. Now if you plan a gathering in Jachymov, hope you let me know and I ll try to arrange it for myself too. I would need to book a place way ahead and negotioate with my health insurance, but it should work (Though it still is too far away from my kids for a month:()

Teaching is wearing on healthy individuals-but to do that with AS is next to impossible!
My father retires this year after 40+ years as elementary school teacher despite the fact that he almost had AS for almost as long. He worked through crutches at times, had back surgeries before they knew it was AS and has been totally fused in spine/neck for 2-3 decades.
But teaching always gave him purpose and he loved it, so it gave him something to look forward to each day. He even coached basketball teams at the school.
I believe teaching is a discipline greatly undervalued, so I commend you on your choice of profession and hope you enjoy it every bit as much as my father did.

40+ years teaching elementary school with AS-that's amazing! Actually, 40+ years in itself is amazing! That's a tough job!
I come from a long line of teachers; both my grandfather and mother taught elementary school with AS (in my grandfather's day, it was called "rhuematism"-he'd be 120 years old today).
Like your father, I love teaching-it's my life. Unfortunately, I was teaching in a very high-needs area in the New York City Public school system when my AS struck big-time. I was told by two doctors that I had to go on disability (at 33 I felt that wasn't an option). So, I changed direction-thought outside the box-switched from teaching elementary school (my favorite) to university (my new favorite). Now, with this Radon Therapy, I get to do my job without pain. Life is good. REALLY GOOD.
BTW, How's Argentina? A friend of mine just moved to the UAE after a year there-she loved it.

I love it here, I do miss things in the States (Family, Friends etc..) but life here is more tranquil and family is very important and stressed... but I can see changes that it is more and more resembling the states.
The language has been more difficult to pick up than I imagined... only frustrating part thus far.
Keep on Kicking and teaching!

Hello Luigi, Since my last post, I have tried a spa in France that claimed to have Radon in their water. As it turns out, the doses were small compared to others like the RADON palace. My pains returned after only a month and therefore I've decided to seek treatment at the Radon Palace in 2009. Hope we can meet as I am not looking forward to a trip during the winter months. I speak some German which will help, but it will be a long three weeks anyways.

RC Pilot,
Sorry to hear the radon treatment in France wasn't satisfactory. However, I think you'll be happy with the results the Jachymov waters will have on your AS. It's been almost a year since my last treatment and I'm still going strong (only taking meds when needed-which isn't often). One strange thing I noticed after last year's treatment: weight gain (8+ kilos). I haven't read anywhere that gaining weight is a side effect, but after 5 years of trying to put weight on my emaciated AS body, it just sort of came out of nowhere--might have something with the radon helping the body produce natural cortisone or something.
I've decided to return to the Radium Palace this summer-winters are just too beautiful where I live and I'm really feeling the need to fast during my winter break (not for the weight gain-fasting is the second most effective treatment for my AS-after the radon treatment, of course).
Keep us up to date on how this works for you!

Hi Luigi, please let me know when you're taking off to check out the baths again. I was also thinking of trying it this summer, depending on how I feel, and it might be fun to overlap our time there!
Great to hear you're still doing well! Thanks for the update.
