My Mom just called to tell me my cat is dying. I have had her since I was a little tiny person. She has always been my best friend, sometimes my only friend. She has had a good, long life--she's 20, only 2 years younger than me. I know this is for the best and she won't be in pain, but I can hardly see through the tears. I just want to hug her one more time, but she's 1000 miles away. This really hones my concentration for the 10 pages of term paper I have to churn out by Wednesday. I guess it's a good thing my back and neck hurt to much to lie down to sleep. Or maybe sleep would be a good escape, but I know I'd be too stiff in an hour to get up again. Maybe next fall I can find a doctor who believes this insane pain isn't all in my head so I can deal with situations that pop up in life like a normal human being.

Oh Erie,
I'm so sorry to hear about your cat, and really understand your feelings.

I don't know what else to say, other than I'm thinking about you......

Take care

Oh, what a bummer....

Hang in there, I also had a cat that lived to be twenty....my mom had her put to sleep as all her organs were going bad....it is hard, especially when you can't be there...my mom told me after the fact that "Calico" was sleeping with angels....I watched her being born (her mom was our second cat in the family and gave birth with me, my bro, and grandma watching) so I shed some tears....

It's always hard when you can't be there, but I'm sure your mom did the right thing...

As for your paper, take some pain meds, do it soon, so you are not in pain going into the final stretch. Pain will drain your energy, and you need it right now....

Peace, hang in there!!

I am sorry about your cat. The loss of a loved one hurts no matter how many legs they have. I wish you the best in these trying times. Rose

Erie - So sorry to hear of your pain - both emotional and physical. I can imagine how hard it must be to say farewell to your beloved cat from afar. I have lost several wonderful cats over the years, and it never seems to get any easier to let them go. I hope you find comfort in knowing that Smokey enjoyed a long life, nurtured by your love. I'm sure she will always be a part of you. If it might help to speak of her, I'd love to hear some of your memories. By the way, she is beautiful!

Sounds to me like you need good medical attention sooner than later. Please don't put off finding a new doc if you can help it. Can I help? I'm sure you know that the physical pain and fatigue during a time of depression and stress can really put you over the edge. Can you ask for more time on your term paper? I wish you whatever comforts you and I hope you can rest somehow (in a comfy chair?). Be good to yourself. - Patrice

Oh, Erie, I am so very sorry. I have lost beloved animals over the years and it does leave a hole in the heart, especially when you grew up with this kitty. Your mom was doing the right thing, hard as it is, and it never gets any easier to make these decisions, but I know how much you must be grieving.

((((hugs))))

Cheryl

Smokey is a beautiful cat ... you must have felt honoured to share most of your remembered lifetime with her. I'm sure Smokey has enjoyed seeing you grow and become the wonderful person that you now are.

Pets touch us in very different ways. That unconditional love is nearly paralleled in our closest relationships, yet remains somehow different.

My best friend from med school has a very sick cat too - it has been heartbreaking to watch that and not be able to help her more. I feel similar here.

My hugs and love to you Erie.

Hugs,
Jeanna

Erie,

I do know how hard this is, being the animal lover I am. If they didn't bring us such joy and unconditional love we wouldn't feel this pain so deeply. How lucky Smokey was to have you in her life.......

hugs,

linda

Dear Erie

I am so sorry about your cat. I am a huge animal lover. We had to have our 12yr old doggy put to sleep in January. It is certainly the loss of a loved one - very hard to accept. Over the years I have lost several beloved pets.
You have to be glad that your cat was a part of your life for so long and that you surely were a major part of her life. I truly believe that the spirit lives on and that we somehow meet again.

Take care

Maggie
